Our sustainability work

Our successes are a result of our history and our working methods. We are a modern, sustainable and flexible law firm that originated in a large firm environment and with a strong international character. Our values come from our own culture and mean that we are characterised by a duty towards our clients, employees and the world around us.

In working with sustainability, we have chosen to focus on three areas – our clients, our internal sustainability and our social responsibility. This makes us a modern and sustainable law firm.

Sustainable client relationships

Through strategic and committed collaboration with our clients, we have succeeded in creating long-term and stable client relationships. Our clients know that we have a short start-up time and are ready to directly solve the problems that arise in business operations, which also makes our business sustainable.

New matters are reviewed from a business ethics perspective to ensure that they do not violate the Swedish Bar Association’s conflict of interest rules and are part of our approach to promoting sustainable client relationships.

We follow the Bar Association’s guidelines for law firms regarding anti-money laundering and terrorist financing legislation.

Our digitalisation process has promoted the sustainability of our business. By digitising the tools that we use, for example for due diligence projects, we have further increased the quality and efficiency of our work. Digitalisation has also made it easier for us to share news and knowledge with our clients.

Internal sustainability

We want to stimulate all of our employees to reach their full potential and we value the importance of diversity and transparency to ensure quality and a good working environment. Our business is characterised by a humble and inclusive approach, where equality and diversity extends to all employees. We offer equal opportunities to all employees.

This means, among other things, that we act in accordance with our policies and do not unlawfully discriminate against any individual.

Equal treatment and diversity

Our work with equality and diversity follows our policy and involves pursuing the following general principles and objectives:

  • We do our best to strike a balance between the number of women and men in order to achieve an efficient, stimulating and pleasant working environment. The primary criteria in the recruitment and promotion process are the employee’s skills and suitability, whether the person is a man or a woman.
  • Men and women are given equal opportunities for personal development at work.
  • Remuneration frameworks are individual, differentiated and transparent, and based on each employee’s skills, performance and importance to us. However, in principle, men and women who perform work that is considered to be similar or equivalent receive equal pay, equal pay increases and otherwise equal employment terms and conditions.
  • We will, to the greatest extent possible, provide the conditions for employees to reconcile work and parenthood.
  • Discrimination and harassment are incompatible with our values.

Gender equality

Our operations are based on a gender equality plan. The gender equality plan contains an overview of the active measures needed in the workplace and a report on which of these measures we intend to start or implement in the coming years. The gender equality plan also includes an overview of the action plan for equal pay.

Since 2018, 33 per cent of our partners are women (the national average among business law firms is approximately 17 per cent). In 2022, the gender distribution of lawyers was 56 per cent women and 44 per cent men.

Our environmental work

We consciously respect the environment and prioritise sustainable development. Our environmental work is based on gradually greening our activities. Small, day-to-day environmental measures are as important as big changes. The sum of all of these measures will propel our environmental work and ensure ongoing improvements.

Our goal of reducing our environmental impact plays a role in all of our decisions. Environmental issues are treated as a natural and integral part of our business.

Social responsibility

In order to take a position on various ethical issues, we rely on the Bar Association’s rules and the Swedish Anti-Corruption Institute’s Code to Prevent Corruption in Business as well as on our own values.

Our contribution to sustainable societal development is primarily through using our know-how to support organisations that contribute to a better society.

For 2023-24, we have chosen to focus our community involvement through pro bono partnerships and other community initiatives in an area we have chosen to call ‘diversity and inclusion’. Pro bono means that we contribute our knowledge and involvement without being paid for our work.

Some examples of organisations we support:

The NU network: Nolla Utanförskapet works to support students who live in vulnerable areas or who come from a disadvantaged home environment. Moll Wendén helps with homework.

The purpose of the Botildenborg Foundation is to promote an inclusive society, safeguard young people’s opportunities for a socially sustainable future, and combat anti-Semitism and racism. Through positive diversity values, such as food, gardening and culture, the Foundation contributes to increasing understanding, interest and solidarity across society’s different traditions, cultures and ethnicities. Moll Wendén assists the organisation with business law advice, including in connection with contracts and employment law.

SGLCC, The Scandinavian LGBT Chamber of Commerce, uses business rationales to promote diversity and inclusion. Moll Wendén assists the organisation on a volunteer basis with business law advice, including in connection with contracts and employment law.

Moll Wendén also has partnerships with MINC and MEDEON, which start, develop and finance research and knowledge-based enterprises. We participate in meetings that offer companies in the MINC and MEDEON communities access to legal advice.
